The folowing guideline regarding D-dimers assays was written by a working party of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis diagnostic algorithm for non pregnant patients with a suspected first deep vein thrombosis Task Force of the British Committee for Standards in Haematology. According to the guideline, sensitive D-dimer assays that can help to exclude the diagnosis have been developed to safely exclude the diagnosis in patients presenting with suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), without resorting to the use of diagnostic imaging.

What you will find find in the article are Clinical assessment of the patients with low, moderate and high pretest probability had DVT, D-dimer assays (D-dimer formation, Types of D-dimer assay, The use of D-dimer assays for the exclusion of thrombosis, Recommendations for selection and use of D-dimer assay), Diagnostic imaging (Conventional ascending venography, Distal DVT and the concept of serial ultrasound, Diagnosis of recurrent DVT), and Recommendations for developing a diagnostic strategy in outpatients with suspected DVT.
