About the Job

NSMC Salem Hospital is a 275-bed community teaching hospital that provides a full range of adult and pediatric services, including medicine, surgery, emergency care, ambulatory care, obstetrics, neonatal care, gynecology, and psychiatry services. It is recognized as a regional referral center for cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and thoracic surgery services.

The affiliation with Partners, which includes Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals, means that NSMC can offer a higher level of expertise and technology to patients on the North Shore.

Conduct intake evaluations for outpatient counseling, present evaluations and treatment recommendations to the primary care psychiatrist for care disposition. Provides counseling through group, individual and family sessions as clinically indicated Allocated up to 75 percent of time to direct service. May provide consultation to other departments.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Masters Degree in psychology, social work, nursing or counseling is required, list all LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS and/or REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED. Current licensure in MA in either psychology, social work, nursing or mental health counseling is required.

Qualifications
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Must be based on the responsibilities described above, requires excellent communication skills, good verbal and hearing skills. Excellent writing skills.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of two years supervised experience and post-licensure in treatment of patients representing wide range of psychiatric disorders, knowledge through education and clinical experience of the developmental issues related to adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Include exposures to hazardous materials, high noise levels, etc.
Stress factors related to the potential for physical threat in working with a psychiatric substance abuse population.
Work is primarily sedentary. Involves sitting most of the time. Involves walking and standing for periods of time.
